Mucosal barrier injury; new parameters and the role of microbiota

There are no objective parameters reflecting Mucosal barrier injury (MBI) in children treated with chemotherapeutics. The questionnaires used to score the severity of MBI have never been validated. Several parameters, reflecting both inflammation and cell loss, were measured in the process of MBI. Plasma citrulline showed to be an objective and easily measurable parameter for MBI in children. Use of this parameter will simplify further research concerning MBI.
