Kidney transplantation is the best therapy for patients with end stage renal failure. However, the survival time of renal grafts is often still limited. A major cause for this is the development of chronic transplant dysfunction (CTD). CTD is characterized by chronic remodeling of renal tissue leading to loss of function of the graft. The studies described in this thesis contributed to our understanding of the development of CTD and provided valuable starting point for further research.
