University Museum - Permanent collection and current exhibitions

Tour around the Academic quarter

In this tour/walk the history of the University of Groningen is brought to life. When exploring the city centre of Groningen the university is very visible. The University Museum has comprised a tour around the academic quarter to show the history of some of the buildings. During the tour you will not only see nice buildings, but with photo's we will show what these places looked like in the past.

Starting point of the walk is the University Museum building, which used to house the university library. The Masterminds exhibition takes you through the history of the foundation of the university. Afterwards we will walk to iconic buildings, such as the Academy Building and the Harmonie Building. We will aslo stop at the statue of Aletta Jacobs, the first female student of the university. The walk is concluded at the wall painting of Kapteyn at the museum.

The tour/walk is guided by student-staff of the museum. As such it is also very suitable for students who are considering to study in Groningen.
