Quota reached from Open Access deal with Springer (OpenChoice program)
According to the agreement between Springer Nature and Universities of the Netherlands, corresponding authors from Dutch universities are allowed to publish up to 2,067 open access articles per year without additional Article Processing Charges (APCs).
The national annual quota for 2024 has been reached today.
Implications
This means that from now on the agreement will be suspended and UG/UMCG articles will no longer be eligible for the usual 100% discount on OA costs.
Dutch corresponding authors will be able to use the new allocation of OA fee exemptions from January 1, 2025.
Alternative routes
During the suspension of the agreement you can choose to publish 'closed access'. Alternative routes to making your article open access could include the Tavern Amendment or the Rights Retention Strategy; please contact us for more information.
Please note: If you choose to publish open access, you must arrange the APC payment yourself.
If your research funder (e.g. NWO or Horizon Europe) requires you to share your publications immediately (without embargo) and under an open license, please contact us for advice.

Notify me service
Authors who wish to be informed about the status can register for a 'notify-me service' managed by Eindhoven University of Technology. This service can also be used to receive updates about other publishers with a maximum number of open access publications.
