Mania and meaning...

Mania and meaning is an empirical study about religious or spiritual experiences of people with bipolar disorder and how they interpret such experiences when they are recovered.

Such experiences can for example include feelings of ultimate happiness, peace or freedom, experiences of unity with the cosmos or with mankind, or experiences of the presence of God.

The experiences are often related to mania, but they have religious of spiritual significance for the persons who have them.

Many people that participated in the study consider them as an important topic to discuss during treatment in mental health care.
