Access to Pure

  • How can I login to Pure?

    Are you a UG employee? Then you can login directly to Pure with your P-number.

    Are you a UMCG employee? Click for more information, and to logon to Pure: Log on to Pure for UMCG employees.

    • Do not use Internet Explorer, but for example Firefox, Google Chrome or MS Edge.
    • Go to: https://pure.rug.nl/admin.
    • In the selection screen RUG/UMCG > Choose UMCG.
    • Log in with your UMCG e-mail address and password.
    • If you do not get the choice between RUG/UMCG, close the browser and try again.
    • If you have any questions: pure umcg.nl.


  • Why do I get an error message?

    If you cannot access Pure or are unable to execute the actions you require, first try the following steps:
    • Close your browser completely (not just the tab containing Pure) and re-start your session in a new browser window.
    • Check that problems are not being caused by your browser security settings or additional plug-ins.

    If the problem persists, take a screenshot of any error messages that occur (Ctrl-Prnt Scrn) and send it to pure@rug.nl
    Describe what you were doing when the error occurred.
  • I can't logon to Pure; what can I do?

    There are several possible reasons why you cannot log in to Pure.

    1. First of all for UMCG staff: you must log in as a UMCG employee; even if you are a  UG researcher with a small appointment at the UMCG, you must log in as a UMCG employee, not as a RUG employee. See Login to Pure (for UMCG staff).
    2. For RUG and UMCG staff: If you are not successful in logging on, please delete the cookies from your web browser before you log in, or log on to Pure using your browser's incognito/private window; and then try again.
    3. Do not use Internet Explorer in the above steps, but for example MS Edge, or Google Chrome.
    4. If you still cannot log in, please send a message as a RUG staff to pure rug.nl, or as a UMCG staff to pure@umcg.nl.
    5. Sometimes the login problem is related to your appointment at the university or at the UMCG. If your appointment at RUG or UMCG continues but the appointment in Pure has been terminated, you will still need to contact the HR department of your research institute, or go to hrs@rug.nl.
    • If you have a 0 appointment but no Pure access, you must ask the HR department of your research institute for a 0 appointment with Pure access.
    • If you are a former researcher at RUG or UMCG, you can send your publication details to pure rug.nl, or as a UMCG employee to pure umcg.nl.

  • Can I authorize someone to maintain my research data?

    In general, researchers are best placed to keep their own profiles up to date. 
    If you ask a colleague to maintain your research data for you, never share your credentials!
    Instead, you can make your colleague a trusted user:
    Click your P-number at the top right corner of Pure → Trusted users → Save.
    Enter the colleague(s) who you want to make your trusted user(s). 
    This will allow the trusted user to maintain your research data once they have logged on to Pure.
