Pure and Data autonomy
Researchers sometimes have questions about how to control their data stored in the Pure research database in relation to research output, activities, press/media items and the like.
In general, we can say in this regard that all rights to these research data in Pure remain with the original owners (the authors and the UG) at all times. More specifically, this means that:
-
UG researchers retain control over their own research data in Pure.*
-
Pure supplier Elsevier may not use or store researchers' data for purposes other than those agreed upon the Pure contract with the UG.
-
the research data can be removed from Pure by the UG at any time.
-
should the subscription to Pure be terminated in the future, all data that have been kept by Elsevier on behalf of the UG will be deleted from Elsevier's servers.
Licence agreements, such as the one between Elsevier and the UG on Pure have also been checked (including for GDPR compliance) by the university's General & Legal Affairs (AJZ) department.
The University Library's privacy statement contains additional information on how the University Library processes personal data.
* Whether data from publications, activities, prizes and so on are entered in Pure is not a decision made by the researcher. Entering this data in Pure is university and faculty policy, and a legitimate interest, for operations and reporting purposes.
However, a researcher can - to some extent - decide what will be visible on the research portal and the staff page.
