Funding, deals and discounts

Thanks to a series of agreements between the Universities of the Netherlands (UNL) and major academic publishers, submitting authors affiliated with the UG and the UMCG can publish their articles open access in thousands of journals for free (100% discount) or with significant discounts on Article Processing Charges (APCs).

Authors are responsible for covering the costs of open access publication in journals that are not part of these agreements.

How to make use of the agreements:

• Check the Journal Browser for an overview of the open access discounts available to you.
• Use your UG/UMCG email address during the submission process.
• Select open access after acceptance and choose a Creative Commons licence.
• Consult openaccess.nl for information on each publisher’s submission procedures.

In addition to the UNL agreements, the UG and the UMCG have negotiated a series of agreements in their own right.

Open access book fund

The University of Groningen has introduced an open access book fund. UG-affiliated authors can apply for funding the publication of their monograph or edited volume.

Diamond open access fund

The University of Groningen has launched a stimulus fund to support diamond open access initiatives by UG/UMCG researchers. The fund can be used to expand and improve existing initiatives (e.g. professionalizing or scaling-up a scholar-led journal) or to create new ones (e.g. setting up a new journal or flipping an existing journal to diamond open access).
