Quota-based publishing agreements: 2026 caps expected to be reached for Springer, Taylor & Francis, Oxford University Press, LWW and Emerald
The University of Groningen (UG) is exploring alternatives to Qualtrics due to data protection risks, rising costs, and changes in Qualtrics’ focus. SURF’s national DPIA identified 14 high risks and advises caution. Qualtrics remains available at UG for now, while a working group investigates alternatives for a future university-wide solution by the end of 2026.
Come to the UB and watch the SHA_RE artwork during the KEI Week on 10-14 August and the Opening of the Academic Year on 31 August.
A new Read & Publish agreement has been signed with the American Chemical Society (ACS) for the period 2026–2028.

Dutch universities are embarking on negotiations with PLOS regarding the extension or discontinuation of this agreement. Depending on the outcome, there may be implications for authors publishing with PLOS. If the agreement is not renewed, authors will be required to cover the applicable article processing charges (APCs) themselves for articles accepted after the end date of the agreement. Please note that eligibility is determined by the article's acceptance date, not its submission date.
The University Library (UB) and the Medical Library have become supporting members of OpenAlex, a free-to-use, open database that provides access to over 480 million scholarly publications across all disciplines. This step underscores the University of Groningen’s (UG) commitment to open science and aligns with the intentions of the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information.
Let’s think together: what does good student communication look like without Instagram?
