Prof. Leonardus Offerhaus (1699–1779)

Also professor of eloquence and history. Under Leonardus Offerhaus’s rule the positive financial trend continued. Through his efforts the library acquired the transactions of several learned societies and academies in Europe, providing the university with access to the latest academic developments. The growth of the collection made it necessary to add new rooms to the existing library building twice. Offerhaus incorporated all acquisitions into a new catalogue consisting of 386 pages, which was published in 1758. A summary of the library rules was painted onto wooden boards. One such board is still on display in the Special Collections reading room (third floor).
