Dr Alexander Cornelis Klugkist (1945–2012)

Alexander Cornelis Klugkist had been working in the University Library since 1982 as deputy librarian. In 1990 he succeeded Koops. Klugkist’s time in office was characterized by a drastic increase in the  digitisation of academic information. The library services were part of this development. The card catalogue was digitised, new search methods became available, and access to academic publications was no longer restricted to the library building. From now on, the university library also came to researchers and students instead of exclusively the other way around. The way in which the library was organised also changed drastically. It was no longer thought adequate to have an organisation consisting of a central library plus several non-related deputy libraries in the different faculties. However, before a reorganisation was concluded Klugkist retired in 2010.
