Provenance and acquisition

Biography

Post studied Germanic languages at the University of Groningen. In 1949, he became a scientific civil servant at the Royal Library of The Netherlands, as the manager of the department for German Language and Linguistics. Shortly after, he was also put in charge of the incunables and post-incunables. Post was also tasked with helping the deputy librarian with the plans for a new building. Even after the completion of this project, it seemed that Post was invaluable at the library: he retired in 1979 but for the next 2 years was still advising on the final phases of the building work. In his testament, he willed his archive and various other goods, such as paintings, rare glass art and ten thousand euros, to the University of Groningen.
