Biography:

Jan R. Luth (Groningen 1951 - ), studied theology (Kampen), organ (Hilversum and Amsterdam), church music (with Frits Mehrtens) and musicology (Utrecht). He obtained his PhD from the University of Groningen in 1986 with a dissertation on the history of congregational singing and organ accompaniment in Dutch Calvinism. He worked as a lecturer in liturgical studies and hymnology specialisation at the Institute for Christian Cultural Heritage of the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies Rijksuniversiteit, Groningen; as a lecturer in hymnology at the conservatories of Arnhem, Zwolle and Groningen; and as a teacher in the study Church Music of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands.
