Theme cabinet: guest author Marja Pruis: Finding your own voice
From: | Th 31-10-2024 |
Until: | Tu 31-12-2024 |
Where: | 2nd floor UB |
This year's guest author of the UG is Marja Pruis, journalist, columnist and author. She has chosen the theme of literary non-fiction.
In this genre, it's increasingly acceptable to place the person of the author in the foreground. The writer's 'I' makes the boundaries between novel, memoir and essay more fluid. Why does this sometimes work well and sometimes not? And why does one 'I' seem truer than the other?
In cooperation with the Dutch and Studium Generale, we have once again set up a theme cabinet with books related to the guest author: the personal essay, and essays on the topic of politics and society, art and nature. There are books on creativity, writing a literary essay and creative writing for those who want to get started themselves.
In addition to books by Marja Pruis, you will find works by Joke Hermsen, Virginia Woolf, bell hooks, Rick Rubin, Simone van Saarloos, Annie Ernaux, Vivian Gornick, Naomi Klein, Tom Lanoye, Colm Tóibín, Norah Ephron, Joan Didion, Renate Rubinstein, Mary Oliver, Anne Lamott, Bas Heijne, James Baldwin and Edward W. Said, among others.
