Increasing student-lecturer interaction using Nestor
Antonio Toral (Language Technology) has used Nestor discussion boards to let students ask course-related questions. Discussion boards have a number of advantages compared to e-mail: students see questions posted by other students, including the answer from the lecturer. This means they don’t have to ask the question themselves, and the lecturer needs to answer the question only once. Furthermore, students can also submit answers themselves, thus taking a more active learning role.
Via the report functionality in Nestor Antonio was able to track the number of times students read or posted topics. On average, students did this about 10 times per week, which convinced Antonio that forums are a useful tool to interact with students.
