Election Spotlight - Lecture Series

Elections around the world continue to shape political landscapes, influence societies and have consequences far beyond national borders. What drives voters and political movements? How do election campaigns and political systems shape outcomes? And what can we learn from developments in different countries?

The Faculty of Arts, in collaboration with the Democracy and Governance theme group at the Rudolf Agricola School, organizes Election Spotlight, an ongoing series of lectures exploring elections and electoral developments around the world.

In each edition, experts from the University of Groningen and beyond provide context and analysis of a particular election or electoral development. The series looks at elections as they happen, while also placing them in their broader historical, political and societal context.

The series began in 2024, a year marked by elections in countries across the globe. Since then, Election Spotlight has continued to follow important elections and developments in different parts of the world.
