What does it mean to collaborate on a film project across colonial divides?
Be part of the thought-provoking screening of Faire-Part, a documentary created by two Congolese and two Belgian filmmakers. Together they explore the vibrant world of political art in Kinshasa.
Through the lens of their collaboration, Faire-part delves into pressing questions: Who is the film really for? What does it mean to use a camera in a place where it evokes both fascination and resentment?
This rare portrait of the Democratic Republic of Congo offers an honest and inspiring reflection on the challenges facing African filmmakers today, as well as the complexities of working across cultural and historical divides.
After the screening, join us for a conversation with invited guests and a Q&A session with the audience. Our first speaker, Prof. Magriet van der Waal (Faculty of Arts), has been conducting thorough research on postcolonial cultural identity and transnational cultural production. Our second speaker, Giuseppe Fidotta (Faculty of Arts), is an expert on film geography and media anthropology, in addition to researching the implications of colonialism in documentary and narrative filmmaking.
