What does it mean to flee your home in search of safety? Join us for an insightful screening of Notes on Displacement by Khaled Jarrar, a deeply moving documentary that puts a human face on the refugee crisis.
Through the eyes of Nadira, an elderly Palestinian refugee and her family, we follow their harrowing journey from war-torn Damascus to Germany. This intimate portrayal reveals the fear, disorientation, and resilience of refugees navigating the uncertainty of exile.
Filmmaker Khaled Jarrar doesn’t just observe—he lives this journey, immersing the audience in a visceral experience that challenges the detachment of mainstream media. From overcrowded boats to dehumanizing camps, Notes on Displacement invites us to walk in their shoes.
After the screening, we will host an after-talk as well as a Q&A session with the audience. Our first speaker is Sergio Rigoletto (Faculty of Arts) whose ongoing research focuses on the recent emergence of the figure of the queer refugee in visual culture and humanitarian discourse. The second speaker is Dr Viviane Singler (University of St. Andrews) whose expertise is concerned with the politics of film culture in the Arab world from the 1950s until today.
