This section serves to create more awareness about different student-led organizations who are active in anti-racism, discrimination and decoloniality in Groningen. On their website and via their social media pages you can find their upcoming events.

ASC

The ASC's motive is to present the rich African culture and heritage, serve as a support organization to help new and existing members adjust to life in Groningen, celebrate multiculturalism, raise awareness about African issues and to promote educational exchange between Africa and the Netherlands. Furthermore, they aim to promote goodwill and understanding of African affairs among the city's international audience. As Africans, they enjoy being together, growing together and learning from one another. On the basis of this, they try to host activities at least once a month.

Past events: Christmas Dinner, Symposia, Dance workshops, Social events (i.e., games, excursions and social drinks), Educational events (i.e., guest lectures, documentaries, panel discussions)

BLOG

BLOG- Black Ladies of Groningen- is an organization that offers a safe space and community for women of ethnic African and Caribbean descent living in Groningen, the Netherlands. Their main goal is to create a home away from home and a platform that allows their members to share experiences, connect with, empower, and support each other. They are committed to providing their members with opportunities across vast areas in order to contribute to our general well-being and socio-economic advancement. Furthermore, they seek to raise awareness when necessary and educate the public on topical and social issues that affect them. Through nationwide collaborations, monthly (social/networking/educational) events, networking programs, and so much more, they ease the process of establishing valuable connections within the female diaspora community. B.L.O.G. hosts two type of events, member exclusive and open public events.

GFN

The GFN is an activist community-led network of like-minded people inclusive of all gender identities, sexualities, skin colors, cultural backgrounds, religions, ethnicities, education, class, abilities and body sizes. They meet every week to create a safe space for discussion; they organize activist projects, and also plan events to unite the community and have fun. Furthermore, there is a Film Club and a Book Club within the GFN, you can check it out for more info! The GFN sees itself as standing in solidarity and support of global and local anti-racist struggles. That means fighting the rise of the far right in the Netherlands and the west, but also speaking out against imperialist aggression and violence against indigenous people all over the world, be it through military attack or capitalist exploitation. Furthermore, that means uplifting, or where appropriate working together with anti-racist organisations and BIPOC groups to combat racism and discrimination.

IDEA

IDEA is the Initiative for Diversity, Empowerment and Awareness (IDEA), a group of young adults studying at the University of Groningen. Their main purpose is to raise awareness about structural inequalities engraved in our society and to demonstrate to the public that there are alternative ways of conceptualizing certain aspects of society in subjects such as philosophy, politics and economics. Additionally, they want to inform on topics such as racism, sexism, discrimination and empowerment through the means of workshops. Therefore, they have previously organized and want to continue to organize several events such as lectures, panel discussions and workshops.

SCDAI

The Student Centre for Diversity Advocacy and Inclusion (SCDAI), is an organization maintained by students for students that aims to facilitate an inclusive environment for students and staff in higher education. To do so they, the students, will advocate for systemic institutional reform and a committed involvement in raising awareness and enabling conversations about complex topics that encompass diversity & inclusion. SCDAI will foster a safe academic environment that brings students, staff and higher management together. Through lobbying and providing a platform for marginalized students, SCDAI will serve as an integral constituent in forging the path for higher education to continuously become more inclusive of its diversity.
