What you need to know about the progress of the demolition of building 5117 & 5118

07 October 2024

Demolition of NB4 building parts 5117 and 5118 started this summer. We published this post about that earlier.

We understand that the vibrations from the demolition may cause concerns. We want to update you on what to expect in the near future to help ease any worries.

Vibrations during demolition
There will be occasional vibrations from the demolition in the upcoming period. Unfortunately, this is part of the process, but there can be fluctuations: at times, there may be little to no vibrations for months, while other times they might be more noticeable. The demolition of a building involves peaks and troughs, and it's normal to experience these vibrations from time to time.

Safety first
We also want to reassure you about the men in white suits you may have noticed. They are responsible for the safe removal of asbestos, a process that is highly regulated and adheres to strict guidelines. Only trained professionals are permitted in areas where asbestos is present, and those areas are completely sealed off from the rest of the building. Therefore, there is no health risk when walking around the construction site.

Respect for the hard workers
The people working on demolition do their utmost to complete everything on time and safely. Sometimes they have to work longer, sometimes even after 5pm, and they start early in the morning. We ask for your understanding and respect for this.

Demolition progress
Not everything happens at the same time. Some parts of the building are being demolished faster, such as building 5118-short, while asbestos is still being remediated in other parts. This is all part of a carefully planned process. Demolition is proceeding as planned and will take about a year from now.

We hope this gives you more clarity and addresses any concerns.
