Results from project meeting, June 3 2016, Royal HaskoningDHV office, Amersfoort
The research team, private partners, and valorisation panel members came together to discuss ideas for the first empirical studies. The research team members Nicole Huijst and Nadja Contzen presented the planned experiments. During discussions, the private partners gave feedback and inputs. The researchers were especially interested to receive suggestions for innovations that could be studied in this first project phase, namely innovations that are (yet) uncontroversial or have (yet) only low media coverage. However, the discussion revealed that many new technologies, such as geothermal energy or gene drive, are at least regionally disputed and emotionally charged. Also, the practical experiences and lessons learned that were shared not only pointed out the relevance of values and emotions in public evaluations of innovations; values and emotions seem similarly important for innovations' acceptability within organizations and for the interaction between different stakeholders involved in innovation development.
