Groningen is the urban centre of the Northern Netherlands, with a population of about 200,000 inhabitants. The city has a lovely historical centre which attracts many visitors every year, with numerous historic buildings, small old-town alleys, and cafes and restaurants in walking distance. The city also has a vibrant night and cultural life and is famous for being the only Dutch city with no curfew.

Groningen is easily accessible by train including direct connections from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (2¼ hours). Groningen inhabitants mainly move around by foot or bike. Bike rental is available at the main train station. The city centre and accommodations are all within walking or biking distance.
