Research Psychology
Which social and biological factors determine our behaviour, how can we recognise and prevent or treat behavioural and developmental disorders? Next to these broad, classical questions, research at the Heymans Institute for Psychological Research – where all research of the psychology department takes place – focuses on topics unique in the Netherlands, such as talent development and creativity, the environmental effects of our behaviour, sustained mobility and the history of psychology.
Within Groningen’s psychology department, you can find researchers who are experts on these topics. In addition, researchers are ready to answer practical questions and give advice about them, either in relation to these unique issues or to classical, psychological themes.
Groningen’s psychology department is organised within the Heymans Institute, comprising nine research units. Our researchers conduct studies in the area of clinical psychology, neuropsychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, environmental psychology, organizational psychology, experimental psychology, theory and history of psychology, and psychometrics and statistics. Researchers from different units frequently collaborate with each other and other disciplines on societally relevant themes. Our researchers collaborate with partners within the faculty, the university, other universities and societal partners ranging from municipalities to the ministry of defense.
