ABC project events in Groningen

At the University of Groningen, prof. dr. Marleen Janssen and dr. Saskia Damen are committed to this project. They are affiliated with the department of Pedagogical Sciences with specific focus on Special Needs Education and Deafblindness. Their research focuses on communication needs of people with visual and hearing loss and evidence based communication and language interventions for these people and their communication partners.

The following events will take or already have taken place in Groningen:

Teacher training, 2017

In June 2017, a three day workshop was conducted to lecturers and researchers from the organizations involved in the ABC project at the University of Groningen. The topics of the given workshops were: Communication Development and Disorders, Communication Theories and Models, Communication Assessment, Augmentative and Alternative Communication interventions, Use of video in communication assessment and intervention.

Online lectures, 2019

Saskia Damen provided three guest lectures for students of the Ilia State University of Georgia. These lectures were recorded and put online in January 2019. The guest lectures concerned the following topics: Assessment of communication in children with special needs, Augmentative and Alternative Communication interventions and Video-feedback interventions.

Study visit, 2019

Six students from Israel and Georgia will visit Groningen for two weeks in July 2019 (1-12 July). In these two weeks, the students will join several lectures. The first week will mostly focus on the academic content. The University of Groningen will provide the students with lectures that focus on communication needs, communication assessment and intervention. The second week will be more practical. The students will pay a visit to some practical sites/fields.
