Master's student Energy and Environmental Sciences Sándor Kruse wins Rachel Carson Graduation Award 2019
Master's student in Energy and Environmental Sciences and Industrial Engineering and Management Sándor Kruse has won the Rachel Carson Graduation Award 2019 for his thesis. In his thesis, “A solution to more efficient grid use by intermitted renewable energy sources”, Kruse makes an important point: switching off in the event of overproduction is easier and not much more expensive than increasing the capacity of the energy network.
Network administrators often want to adjust the network to prevent overcapacity. The starting point for this is that the grid is a limitation when it comes to the supply of wind and solar energy. With his research, Kruse brings about a shift in thinking that is surprising, practical and applicable.
The prize is an initiative of the VVM, network of environmental professionals and a number of environmental study associations. With this prize, the VVM wants to raise awareness of the graduation work of students in the field of environment and sustainability. Sándor Kruse shares the Graduation Award with Anthea van Scherpenzeel from Utrecht University.
Rachel Carson
The Graduation Award is named after Rachel Carson, marine biologist and the author of the book "Silent Spring". In the early 1960s, this book set the stage for a broad public awareness of environmental issues in large parts of the world.
