Professor Bart Besselink is a partner in a consortium receiving 2 million euros from the National Growth Fund program 'NXTGEN Hightech' for the development of a new design method for mechatronic systems. The project also aims to train new systems engineers. About one third of the funding comes from co-financing by industrial partners from the semiconductor industry. Professor Nathan van de Wouw (TU Eindhoven) is coordinator of the project.

With the NXTGEN Growth Fund program, the Dutch Research Council (NWO) aims to strengthen research that contributes to improving the Dutch and European high-tech industry.

Adressing critical challenges

The project addresses two critical challenges facing the Dutch high-tech industry: the increasing complexity of system designs and the shortage of qualified system engineers. With an innovative approach to system design that fully embraces modular design principles and automates the design process, this new scalable method promises to revolutionize the development of complex systems. The approach will initially be applied to pioneering machine design in the semiconductor industry.

About NXTGEN Hightech

The National Growth Fund Program NXTGEN Hightech develops a new generation of high-tech devices focused on sustainability, digitization, health and technological sovereignty. This will strengthen the earning capacity of the Netherlands and address societal challenges.
