Nobel prize
at the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE)
The Nobel Prize was established in 1895 because of the will of Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel. The prizes for peace, chemistry, literature, physics and medicine were first awarded in 1901.
In 1953 and in 2016, a researcher from the Faculty of Science and Engineering won the Nobel Prize.
2016 | Prof. Ben L. Feringa has won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the development of molecular machines. |

1953 | Prof. Frits Zernike has won the Nobel Prize in Physics for his invention of the phase contrast microscope. He was currently a professor at the RUG. |
