Conditions for a positive BSA

The Binding Study Advice (BSA) system applies to all students who register in academic year 2011-2012 for the propaedeutic phase of a Bachelor's degree programme at the University of Groningen.

If you gained your propaedeutic certificate at a different university, you do not fall under the BSA system.

This depends on the type of Bachelor's degree programme you are following:

• Full-time degree programme
  If you earn 45 ECTS credit points in the first year, you will receive a positive study advice.
  
  Exception for students at University College Groningen and University College Fryslân: 60 EC.
  
• Part-time degree programme
  Part-time students must earn 20 ECTS each year to receive a positive study advice.

If you earn 45 ECTS credit points in the first year and gain your propaedeutic certificate within two years you will receive a positive study advice.

If you have been granted an exemption by the Board of Examiners for a certain course unit, those ECTS credit points will count towards your final total. In other words, if you have been granted an exemption for a first-year course unit worth 5 ECTS, you must earn at least another 40 ECTS to receive a positive study advice.

A Binding Study Advice (always negative) issued for one degree programme can also apply to a cluster of related degree programmes. This means that you cannot enrol in a degree programme in that cluster.

At the University of Groningen, the Faculties of Economics and Business, Science and Engineering, and Law have clustered certain degree programmes.
