ICT systems - introduction for new students

Both during and before your studies you have to undertake a few steps in order to follow courses. On this page, you can find a useful overview of the steps, with video tutorials.

Start

Have your student number (e.g. s1234567) and password ready!

Step 1: Always start at the Student Portal, your gateway to all information

On the today tab you find important announcements. On the Study Info tab you can find all practical information.

Step 2: Check and/or forward your Student Mail

Messages from your teachers, the faculty or university the are sent to your Google student Mail. Therefore it is important that you check this account regularly. It is also possible to link your Studentmail to your private email address, so that all the e-mails will be forwarded.

• Go to your Student Mail (find the direct link on the Student Portal)
• Go to settings in the upper right corner of your UG-mailbox, choose 'Settings'
• Go to 'Forwarding and POP/IMAP'. There you can enter the email address you want your UG-mail to be forwarded to

Step 3: Check detailed info about your upcoming courses via Ocasys

Step 5: Find your personal schedule via the Schedule Generator

Please note:the schedule generator has gotten another lay-out, so the video looks different then the real website, but the way to check your schedule is the same.

Step 6: Find info by your lecturers via the digital learning environment (Nestor) in the Student Portal

Step 7: Work with your documents and university software online on UWP, the virtual desktop

Step 8: Connect your device to the wireless network

Within the University buildings you can access the wireless network of Eduroam. Common settings are: PEAP, MSCHAPV2, s1234567@rug.nl, your UG password).
