Professor Frank Hindriks has been appointed a member of the Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen (KHMW, Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences and Humanities) on 8 February.

Frank Hindriks is professor of Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Groningen. He is also director of the Centre for Philosophy, Politics and Economics at that university. In this capacity as well as in his role as a fellow of the gravity program of Sustainable Cooperation he frequently cooperates with social scientists. Interactive responsibility is the central theme of his research which encompasses the preconditions for stable, valuable and just institutions. He is internationally recognized because of his contributions to social ontology, as a co-founder of the Journal of Social Ontology and the International Social Ontology Society.
The Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (KHMW: Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen) is the oldest ‘Learned Society’ in the Netherlands. It was founded in 1752 under the name Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen to promote science in the widest possible sense. Ever since its establishment, the Society has been involved in promoting science and facilitating exchange between academia and society. It has traditionally had a two-tier structure: a college of administrators with an academic interest, i.e. the Directors, and a group of academics, i.e. the members, who are responsible for the Society’s academic activities
Frank Hindriks has been appointed together with 20 other new members, one of them being another UG colleague: Professor Janka Stoker of the Faculty of Economics and Business.
