Closing Workshop: The Roots of Deduction
We are hosting a conference to mark the ending of the VIDI research project The Roots of Deduction
Over the past five years members of the project, directed by Catarina Dutilh Novaes, have investigated the historical, cognitive and philosophical roots of deduction. The main focus of the project has been a particular multi-agent dialogical account of deduction, the 'built-in opponent' conception of deduction. This has been used in the project to inform analyses of ancient Greek conceptions of logic and deduction; to help us to understand mathematical cognition and cognitive biases; and to shed light on classical and contemporary problems in the philosophy of logic.
