Faculty of Philosophy - 60 years

#Philosophy is more fun when you think about it
This year, the faculty celebrated its 60th anniversary, and we enthusiastically marked this milestone with a series of special events.
The activities included an official opening on 3 September in the Senate Room of the Academy Building (view the program), featuring short presentations from various faculties about their collaboration with philosophers and how philosophy strengthens academic partnerships. Watch a video of the opening.
We also organized a BBQ in the garden of the Academy Building and ended the day with a big party. We truly enjoyed celebrating this together with you!

To celebrate our 60th anniversary as a faculty, we offer as a present what we’re best at: doing philosophy with and for society. But instead of inviting everyone into the university, we decided to go out and bring philosophy to whereever people want it to be. We invited our alumni and members of the public to submit suggestions for where to hold such events, and then matched members of our faculty to them.
The events below are open to the public (information will be provided at the websites of the relevant institutions):
-
On 18 September, Mark Pauly will talk about conspiracy theories at the Humanistisch Verbond Groningen en Ommelanden.
-
On 14 October (19:30 - 21:30), Titus Stahl will talk about hope and pessimism at the Buurthuis Termunten “Samen onder 1 Dak”.
-
On 29 October, Hannah Laurens will talk about Aristotle at Filosofiecafé Emmen.
-
On 1 November, Jan-Willem Romeijn will talk about the wisdom of the group at the Volt Congres Groningen.
In addition, other colleagues will hold lectures about topics such as the analogy between drugs and social media, about personal identity from Locke to today, and about democratic work, at various schools and public institutions in Groningen and neighboring cities.
