Sjoerd Beugelsdijk appointed at the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities

Sjoerd Beugelsdijk, Professor of International Business at the Faculty of Economics and Business, has been appointed a member of the Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen (KHMW, Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities).
Beugelsdijk was appointed professor at the University of Groningen in 2009, at the age of 32. Before that, he worked as an associate professor at Radboud University Nijmegen. He obtained his PhD at Tilburg University in 2003 and was a lecturer there until 2004.
Diversity, identity and polarization
Beugelsdijk is an expert on economic globalization and cultural diversity. He has edited and co-authored the 2019 government advisory board (Sociaal en Cultureel Planbureau) report on ‘Dutch national identity’. In 2019 he was awarded the JIBS silver medal for his contribution to the field and in 2021 he published a popular scientific book on popularization in the Netherlands, titled De verdeelde Nederlanden (the divided Netherlands). The book was well received and garnered a lot of attention nationally.
Beugelsdijk has published more than 70 refereed journal articles and has edited special issues of leading journals, such as the Journal of International Business Studies and Journal of Economic Geography. In total, he has received over 1 million euros in competitive research grants (Rubicon, Veni, Vidi) from the Dutch Research Council (NWO).
The KHMW
The KHMW was founded in 1752. Ever since its establishment, the KHMW has been involved in promoting science and facilitating exchange between academia and society.
