Evrim Ursavas appointed as Professor of Energy Logistics

The faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) is pleased to announce that Dr. Evrim Ursavas has been appointed as Professor of Energy Logistics. The chair is situated within the department of Operations.
Evrim Ursavas joined FEB as an assistant professor in 2013 and became associate professor in 2019. Ursavas is an expert on Supply Chain Design, with an emphasis on energy and logistics. She is a highly productive researcher who is specialized in the design of supply networks for renewable energy such as hydrogen.
Sustainable energy supply
In the past years, Ursavas has obtained large grants for six different projects. She is the academic lead in the six-year programme HEAVENN, where an international consortium of 31 partners works on multiple projects related to the development of a fully functioning green hydrogen chain in the Northern Netherlands. Next to this, she is also the project leader in the EU-project CONSENCUS and has recently received EU-funding for a project called TRIĒRĒS Valley, focused on the development of a hydrogen market in Greece.
Ursavas’ focus on energy is very relevant to the University of Groningen and more specifically to FEB, it fits well within the strategic interdisciplinary theme Energy Transition & Climate, one of the five themes that FEB will further develop and embed in education and research in the coming years. Apart from conducting and coordinating outstanding research, she has embedded her research expertise on sustainable energy supply and transport in several bachelor and master courses and has played an important role in giving energy a more prominent place in the Master’s programmes Supply Chain Management and Technology & Operations Management.
Tackling societally relevant problems
As professor of Energy Logistics, Ursavas looks forward to continue contributing to new knowledge and methods to tackle societally relevant problems, with particular focus on the Northern Netherlands. “Energy is a fundamental element of the economy, with the Netherlands being an important energy hub in the Northwest European market. In the Netherlands alone a turnover of 55 billion euro annually and an employment of 813,000 people is achieved in the transport and logistics sector.” The professor also aims to continue making connections between academia and society and to explore new approaches to do so.
