Erik Dietzenbacher appointed as Fellow of the Regional Science Association International

Professor Erik Dietzenbacher was appointed as Fellow of the Regional Science Association International (RSAI). RSAI fellows are renowned scholars with a significant and recognized research record in the field of regional science during a considerable part of their scientific career.

Dietzenbacher is Professor of Interindustry Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB). His research expertise lies in input-output analysis, economic growth, global supply chains, and emissions trade. Apart from his position at the University of Groningen, he has also been Affiliate Research Professor at the Regional Economics Applications Laboratory (REAL) of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Guest Professor at the Graduate University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (GUCAS) in Beijing.

Additionally, Dietzenbacher was President of the International Input-Output Association (IIOA), is Honorary President of the Chinese Input-Output Association (CIOA), Honorary Fellow of the Hispanic-American Input-Output Society (SHAIO), and serves on the advisory board of the Regional Research Institute (RRI) at West Virginia University in Morgantown. Between 2009 and 2012, he was the project coordinator of ‘World Input-Output Database: Construction and Applications’ (WIOD), a large-scale collaborative research project that was funded by the EU in its 7th Framework Programme. In 2021, he was appointed Officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau for outstanding service of international importance.

Founded in 1954, the Regional Science Association International is an international community of scholars interested in the regional impacts of national or global processes of economic and social change. The work of RSAI draws on the expertise of many different disciplines and this multi-disciplinary approach helps to facilitate new theoretical insights for tackling regional problems. In turn, this provides an increasing opportunity for academics within the RSAI to engage more fully with planners and policy makers.

The main objectives of the association are the fostering of exchange of ideas and the promotion of studies focusing on the region, including the utilization of tools, methods and theoretical frameworks, specifically designed for regional analysis as well as concept, procedures and analytical techniques of the various social and other sciences. These objectives are supported through the acquaintance and discussion among RSAI members and with scholars in related fields. Honored members of the RSAI are appointed as Fellow after a careful nomination and selection procedure, based on a broad consultation of the RSAI membership.
