As of September 2023, Professor of Educational Innovation Jan Riezebos has been appointed as member of the Program Committee Higher Education by NRO (The Netherlands Initiative for Education Research, part of the Dutch Research Council). This committee programs and monitors NRO-funded research on higher education in the Netherlands. In addition, the committee coordinates some specific research programs.
Riezebos will have the portfolio of scientific research. The committee's tasks include preparing "calls for proposals" within the categories:
-
Big questions in higher education;
-
higher education for the future and;
-
insight into educational innovation.
The program committee also draws up the themes for Comenius education grants and some specific focus areas such as the professionalization of teachers. In addition to being a professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Groningen, Riezebos is also academic leader of the Teaching Academy Groningen. "I like to contribute to innovative research on higher education and innovation of that education. As scientists, we must not only increase the knowledge of our field, but also continually explore how best to educate new generations of students in it."
The annual budget for research and educational innovation considered by the program committee is over 32 million euros. The appointment is for 3 years with a possible extension of up to 2 years.
