Application Checklist International Students

In order to process your application quickly, we need your application package to be complete. Here we explain what you should include in your application and what you can send us as soon as possible afterwards. You can use the Progress Portal to upload digital copies of the necessary documents.

Are you planning to apply to one of the Bachelor's or Master's programmes at the Faculty of Economics and Business? You can find below more information about the documents you need to upload online.

What documents do you need when applying to a Bachelor's degree?
  • Passport: a scan of your valid passport (or ID card for EEA students);
  • Diploma of completed upper secondary education. If not yet completed, please provide a 'Statement of enrolment' (incl. official name of qualification/diploma and date of graduation);
  • Transcripts: a copy of your (temporary) list of grades for all years of upper secondary school. If it is not in English or Dutch, please provide a translation in English or Dutch. If your list is temporary, please also submit a list of courses you still have to take to complete your programme;
  • Mathematics proficiency: for all Bachelor's programmes. Read more about the exact levels;
  • Curriculum outlines / descriptions: of the courses you have completed/ will complete in Mathematics. You can find more information about course description criteria and exemptions;
  • Proof of English proficiency: for all Bachelor's programmes: EU/EEA students have to send it before 20 August (September start); non-EU/EEA students have to send it before 1 June (September start). Check the accepted tests and scores.

Only when you apply for a Dutch-taught programme

  • NT2 result: if you apply for a programme taught in Dutch and Dutch is not your native language, you will need to provide us with a copy of your NT2 result.

NB: If the documents are not in English or Dutch, please also provide a translation in English or Dutch. For more information, check the Admission pages .

What documents do you need when applying to a Master's degree?
  • Passport
  • A document indicating the name of your qualification in the original language (for example Laurea, Ptychio, Sarjana, Bachelor, Licenciado, 学士, etc.);
  • Academic transcript/grade list/report card (and if applicable a list of courses yet to be completed, with credit allocation);
  • Proof of English proficiency: check the overview of the language requirements and accepted exemptions. EU/EEA students have to send it before 1 September (September start) or before 1 February (February start); for non-EU/EEA students, the deadline is 1 June (start September) or 15 November (start February);
  • Brief description (max. 20 pages) of the relevant courses you have taken in the field of the specific Master programme you are applying for, and of any courses in research methods and statistics. Course descriptions must include the relevant checklist (see below), a description of topics covered in the courses. If the documents are not in English, please provide a translation in English or Dutch. See the overview for the relevant checklists. You can upload your checklist in the Progress Portal. Extra documents needed for the Research Master in Economics and Business:
Motivation and recommendation letters are required for the selective Research Master Economics and Business.

  • Motivation letter
  • CV
  • GMAT or GRE test results: for students who obtained their diploma in a non-EU/EEA country.  Check the exact scores and exemptions;
  • Students have to hand in two letters of recommendation. These should be from academic staff. The letter can be scanned and uploaded. If a referee insists on sending the letter directly, it should be sent to Rina Koning (a.c.koning rug.nl).

The Immigration Service Desk (ISD) of the University of Groningen (UG) can inform students with a non-EU/EEA nationality about the immigration procedure.
