Admission Procedure

Below is the admission procedure for the Honours Programme. If you meet the admission requirements, you can apply until 14 March 2025. If you are suitable and there are enough places, you will be admitted. If there are more suitable students than places, a lottery will take place.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission, you must meet certain requirements. Admission is based on selection, as the number of places (250) in the Honours Programme is limited. Because we want to be sure that you are able to follow this additional programme, without this being at the expense of your performance in your Bachelor's degree programme, we look at your study results to date. Inform yourself well and attend information meetings. These are the admission requirements:

  1. You are a first-year bachelor's student at the UG.
  2. You have completed all ECTS of the first semester and have achieved a weighted grade point average 7 or higher.
  3. You have sufficient knowledge of the English language to be able to follow the Honours Programme, because almost all lectures, literature and assignments are in English.

If you have any questions about these admission requirements, please see the EAR for more information or contact us at honours rug.nl.

Apply for the programme

To apply, fill in the form (available from the end of January 2025). You answer questions about your motivation, eligibility, obtained grades and ECTS, and send in both documents and a video. So wait for the results of the first semester before filling in the form. Please note: The deadline for application is March 14, 2025 at 16:00!

Content of the application file:

  1. Personal data (including name, student number, faculty/programme).
  2. Answer questions about your motivation and suitability for the programme.
  3. An overview of all results achieved so far in your Bachelor's degree programme and the total number of ECTS.
  4. A short resume.
  5. A video in which you answer (faculty Honours Programme) specific questions.

Shortly after the deadline has passed, a decision will be made on admission or rejection based on the file. If you are suitable and there are enough places (per faculty or programme), you will be admitted. If there are more suitable students than available places, a lottery will take place. The outcome of this lottery will determine whether or not you will be placed in the Honours Programme. We will inform you about this before the Welcoming Ceremony, the official start of the Honours Programme (early April).

NB. At some small faculties (Philosophy and Religion, Culture and Society) the admission procedure is set up differently. Candidates are interviewed based on their application file after which a decision is made on placement or rejection.

If you have any questions about the form or the placement procedure, please contact us at honours rug.nl.
