Reference man

Reference man is defined by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) as being a white jung adult, weighing 70 kg, is 170 cm in height, and lives in a moderate climate. To enable computer calculations, the ICRP has developed a number of phantoms, such as an anthropomorphic phantom, the ICRU sphere and the ICRU slab.

One should realize that reference man is created from statistical data of healthy young men and that values from a real person may differ greatly from the reference values. Therefore, one must take caution in applying the values from the calculation models of the ICRP.
