Limitation
The Decree on Basic Safety Standards Radiation Protection states dose limits for equivalent dose and effective dose, both for workers and members of the general public. The limit for equivalent dose is meant to prevent tissue reactions at all, the limit for effective dose is aimed to reduce the risk of stochastic effects to an acceptable level.
In agreement with the recommendations of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), no dose limits are given for patients and people who aid or assist patients.
The three pilars on which radiation protection is based, are:
- justification
- optimization
- limitation
