Julie, Art History and European Languages and Cultures

About Julie and Art History
For me the decision to study Art History became very clear when I heard a professor give a lecture at an open day. This instantly made me so enthusiastic that the interest I had in other bachelors dropped. My family has always been very artistic; my father also studied Art History and my sister is currently studying at the art academy Minerva. I was raised with art and always encouraged to do something with it. The thing I like most about Art History is that it includes people from all over the world with very different backgrounds that all share the same passion for art. This makes that we are a very tight group. Art History is a very small programme, which makes it very personal.

The programme is also very diverse, in the first year you immediately go on different excursions and visit many museums. I enjoyed this very much in particular, because it will bring you closer to the things you learn and you get an idea as to where you might end up after your studies.

About European Languages and Cultures
Within my Art-history bachelor i middes the political and societal outlook that I have always fpund very interesting. I have this aspect that I had been missing in European Languages and Cultures and more. The programme can also be combined bery well with my other bachelor because you have a lot of freedom within the programme and you can choose your own path.

I chose to do the European Politics and Society profile, with Eastern European Studies as an elective and Italian as my major language. Italian comes in very handy for my Art-History bachelor, but I mainly chose to learn this language because of my love for the Italian culture. Within my bachelor I am primarily focussed on European political history, but makes this programme so interesting is that you can go in many directions. You can choose to focuss more on multiple European languages, on linguistics, literature and many more , you can, as it were, organize the entire programme how you like it.

Something that is also very exciting about the programme is that in the third year you are encouraged to study abroad for a time. I am definitely planning to use this opportunity!
