DCC Workshop: Research Data Management System (RDMS) for Command-Line Users

When:We 23-10-2024 13:00 - 15:00
Where:CIT Smitsborg, Room 5431.0060

The aim of this workshop is to give you a basic understanding of the possibility to work with the iRODS-based Researcher Data Management System (RDMS) from the command line interface (CLI). While there is a vast selection of different CLI clients that can be used to interact with iRODS (see iRODS Clients), this workshop focuses on the official iRODS iCommands client.

You will learn the following during this workshop:

  • How to install iCommands in a Linux OS.
  • How to set up iCommands to work with the RDMS.
  • How to use iCommands for:
    • General file management operations (for example, list, move, copy files)
    • Data transfer operations (Upload, Download, Synchronization)
    • Working with metadata (Adding, removing, adjusting, querying)
    • Permission Management
  • How to employ the RDMS in HPC jobs.

We will also touch upon the possibilities that non-Linux users have if they want to interact with the RDMS from the CLI.

Attention:

  • For participation in this workshop, it is needed that you bring your own laptop to access the system.
  • During this workshop, the virtual LWP will be used for demonstration. Please check in advance that you can access the virtual system: Here
