Writing for the web

To ensure that the UG websites are and remain of good quality, every editor is expected to participate in the 'Writing for the web' course. Successful completion of the course is a prerequisite for obtaining editing rights as a Reviewer, Basic Editor or Advanced Editor on the UG website.

Important: registration for the course is in consultation with the web coordinator of the faculty or department. After approval, you can handle the registration yourself.

Goal

Attractive web content makes visitors return to a website. But how do you do this?

In this course, you will learn step-by-step how to write an attractive text, determine the right target group and what form and location to offer your content in. You will also learn about search engine optimisation (SEO).

  • Writing style
  • Document types and publication locations
  • Searchmachine optimalisation. Increasing the score of a web page in the results of search engines
Prerequisites

The course assumes that you are familiar with an Internet browser (Edge, Firefox or Chrome).

HTML knowledge or experience creating websites is not required for this course.

At the starting date of the course you will receive an e-mail with an explanation and a link to the practice area.
The course can be taken in Dutch or English.
Duration

Going through 'Writing for the web' takes depends on your writing experience. The course will take an average of half a day.

Please note: you have 1 month to complete the course and hand in the final assignment.
