Personal effectiveness
Which personal qualities can you deploy to achieve your professional goals? How might you stand in the way of your own growth? How do you guard your time and boundaries? How can you better come into your own? How do you make sure that you’re standing firm? How can you gain more satisfaction and pleasure from your work? How do you take control?
Through the training course on personal effectiveness, you will make sure that you are at the helm. You will delve into your qualities, pitfalls, and convictions. You will discover how you influence others and get a handle on the dynamics between yourself and others. The training course is intended for all University staff members who would like to learn about themselves, others, communication, and interaction in a practical and experience-based manner.
Objective
The training course on personal effectiveness is a journey of discovery. You will develop a broader and deeper image of yourself and learn how to interact with others who are very different from you. You will break patterns and learn how to achieve your goals. In addition, you will learn skills to help you tackle difficult situations and you will learn how to handle internal dilemmas and tensions. To this end, the following questions will be addressed:
● How does my behaviour influence others?
● What effect does my environment have on me?
● How do I respond to my environment?
● What happens if I change my behaviour?
Programme
The training course comprises two blocks of two days each. The content of the training course is based on the personal intake discussions with all of the participants. There is plenty of space to discuss and investigate your own situations from practice. The theory is linked to practical situations. At the end of the first block, you will formulate your own self-assignment to carry out in practice. After the second block, you will draft a personal action plan for the period after the training course.
The following topics will be covered:
• making contact
• dealing with emotions
• listening skills
• core qualities and pitfalls
• giving and receiving feedback
• interaction patterns
• hindering and helpful thoughts
• verbal and non-verbal behaviour
• assertiveness
