Dutch for native speakers of German

Banner

Are you a native German speaker and would you like to learn or improve your Dutch? The University of Groningen Language Centre offers Dutch language courses that have been specially developed for native German speakers. We teach these Dutch courses both on location and online.

Why courses specially for native German speakers?

Due to the similarities between German and Dutch, native German speakers are often able to learn the Dutch language faster than non-Dutch speakers with other mother tongues. That's why it's convenient to be in a group with other native German speakers. It allows you to learn Dutch at the same pace. Various similarities and differences between German and Dutch will be discussed in the course material and during the lessons. In addition, we will quickly deal with subjects that are generally not problematic for native German speakers, and we take our time for the more problematic topics.

These courses are not an appropriate fit for participants who are not native German speakers. In our experience, participants who are not native German speakers but who do speak German are also not able to obtain optimal learning outcomes in this course. This group would be better suited to signing up for a general group course in Dutch or a Dutch course for UG students, PhD students and postdocs.

Compensation for UG students, PhDs' and postdocs

International students, PhDs' and postdocs of the University of Groningen are being offered these Dutch courses for native speakers of German at the Language Centre by the Board of the University of Groningen.
