Canoe (kayak) 5x

Canoeing doesn't seem too difficult, why take a course then? If you want to cover long distances, or want to travel faster, it is wise to learn the good techniques. It's better to learn good techniques from the start than to unlearn bad techniques later. A good technique prevents injuries, makes canoeing seemingly effortless and increases safety and pleasure.

Canoe at BALANS.

BALANS works together with the Groningen Canoe Association (GKV). They have introduction courses which consist of 5 lessons of  2.5 hours. In the lessons you learn the beginnings of the technique, boattypes and how to treat the boat. You get introduced to the association and can join the club for free on a daytrip after completing the course. You can join one of the courses, BALANS is paying half of the price. There is no course reserved for university staff.

For whom?

De course (5 x) is suitable for all staff members who would like to start with canoe. You do, however, need a swimming certificate. The language of instruction is Dutch.

When and where?

Introductionlessons kayak (5x) start April 16, 17 and 2  May 2 and 22. From 19.00 - 21.00 hours. Check on the GKVwebsite exact dates and which course is open.

Location: GKV, Hoornse Dijk 4 (Paterswoldse meer), between Groningen and Haren.

De GKV takes care of the materials (canoe, paddles,life jacquet). You will need well-fitting clothing, in particular a well-fitting shirt or jacket to prevent getting caught up in your oars. You will also need comfortable shoes, for example trainers – running shoes are not suitable. In addition, a thermo shirt or windproof clothing may be a good idea when the weather gets colder. Wearing glasses on a cord or chain is advisable.

Costs

Your own contribution is 25 euro.

Register

Payments will be handled via iDEAL. BALANS will inform GKV about your payment. Please register also at GKV and mention that you pay via BALANS. You also check off an alternative starting date on the form, in case of a cancelled course.
