As part of the programme, you will complete a final project tailored to your expertise level, introducing you to practical applications and ethical considerations in speech technology. You will gain hands-on experience and explore research methods. The pre-master is your entry point to the exciting industry of speech technology.

Why should I join?

If you successfully complete this pre-master's course, you can be admitted directly to the Master's in Speech Technology programme. This course is designed to bridge knowledge gaps and prepare you with the foundational skills necessary for advanced study in speech technology. It supports you in acquiring the required background in areas such as signal processing, linguistics, machine learning, and programming, which are crucial for success in the programme.

Additionally, this gives you hands-on experience with real-world applications of speech technology, allowing you to:

  1. apply theoretical concepts to practical challenges;

  2. gain experience with tools and libraries commonly used in the field;

  3. develop critical thinking skills about the ethical implications of speech technology; and

  4. assess your current skill level and areas for growth.

  • You’re an HBO graduate in a related field like Computer Science, Linguistics, or Communication Sciences,

  • You have a university degree in an unrelated field and need foundational programming or speech technology knowledge, or

  • You’re a professional looking to transition into speech technology and want to strengthen your expertise.

The programme aims to level the playing field, ensuring all participants have the necessary background in speech processing, programming, and research methodologies to succeed in the master's programme.

Where and when does it start?

This self-paced pre-master is held entirely online and begins February 2025.

What is the expected workload?

This premaster consists of a self study project, which you can take in your own time. The workload is 7 ECTS, which equals almost 200 hours. This includes time spent reading, studying, reflecting, and writing.

What are the costs?

The fees for the pre-master are as follows:

  • For NL/EU students: € 294

  • For NON-EU/EER students: € 1946

How to apply?

The application steps are:

  1. Submit your application for Speech Technology in Studielink

  2. The Admissions Board reviews applications to determine eligibility to the premaster;

  3. The applicant will be instructed on how to register for the premaster.

The application round opens on 1 October 2024.
The application deadline is 12 January 2025.
