Grant to tackle plastic soup in Wadden region
For the long-term project Wad gaat Om, education, entrepreneurs and government are joining forces. The University of Groningen, Sustainable Entrepreneurship & Circular Economy, is one of the parties involved.
With the €3.2 million grant from the Waddenfonds that is now available, the plastic problem will be tackled from the source.
The project includes cleaning up plastic soup, processing it, looking for alternatives to plastic and raising awareness and changing the behaviour of governments, entrepreneurs and the public. The total costs for this project amount to €7,440,628.
Collaboration
Wad gaat Om is a collaboration of NHL Stenden Hogeschool, House of Design, Provincie Fryslân, Landelijke Vereniging tot Behoud van de Waddenzee, Stichting De Jut Fabriek Terschelling, Friese Milieu Federatie, Vereniging Circulair Friesland, Ecoras, Visit Wadden, Ubuntoo B.V., Noria B.V., Stichting Waddengroep, Stichting Texel Plastic Vrij, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen en Hanzehogeschool Groningen.
