Students of Campus Fryslan Shine in Wolters Kluwer's #DataSolve Hackathon.
A team of four students from the new BSc program Data Science and Society (DSS) recently participated with great success in the renowned data science hackathon, #DataSolve, organized by Wolters Kluwer, one of the prominent players in the field of data science.

The competition was a rigorous two-week endeavor, where participants were given access to a comprehensive HR data set, including details such as job descriptions and location information. The challenge was to create a model that predicts the time it would take to find a suitable candidate.

Our students, represented some of the youngest competitors in the event. Despite their novice status, they put forth a remarkable performance.

Wolters Kluwer, a global leader in professional information, software solutions, and services, initiated this competition to engage data science talents and bring out innovative solutions for real-world problems. The competition saw several teams from various institutes, including renowned technical universities like Delft.

Our students, known as the "Fortune Tellers" were initially ranked fifth among the teams. However, after a presentation to the head of HR, Finance, and the Talent Chief Officer at Wolters Kluwer's headquarters in The Hague, they climbed up a rank to secure fourth place.

Despite competing against seasoned bachelor and master students, our team, with just six weeks of experience in data science, demonstrated exceptional teamwork and problem-solving skills. Their climb in the ranking after their presentation is a testament to the strength of their analysis and their communication skills.

The Fortune Tellers have not only made our school proud but also underscored the potential that early-stage data science students can bring to the table. This achievement is an impressive step forward in their career and an inspiring story for other young data enthusiasts.

Congratulations to the Fortune Tellers Yuxiang Gao, Tessa Pino, Karsjen Koop and Nathan van Hoek for their excellent performance in the Wolters Kluwer #DataSolve hackathon!
