About Sustainable Tourism & Society
Cultural Geography studies the mutual shaping of human societies and our natural surroundings into cultural landscapes. Within this programme, you can follow a track in Sustainable Tourism & Society. With this track you will benefit from a small-scale transdisciplinary approach to tourism, grounded in cultural geography, giving you insight into the interplay between tourists, visitors, local communities, the natural world and the built environment.
Msc. student Tijmen about STS
"I am extremely interested in rural geography and I see tourism as a possible catalyst for regional development. We get taught about the geographies of identity, culture/heritage and socio-spatial development. Classes are small so you will not feel as ‘drowned’ in a large lecture hall surrounded by hundreds of others. The lecturers are also much more approachable which makes staying up-to-date with the course material easier. All of this combined prepares me for my next step, whether that is to go ahead in academia by pursuing a PhD or to go work in a public or private agency that promotes regional development."
